Apps I Use to Travel the World for Food

Updated: Jul 20

Burger and fast food

We’ve talked about travelling for food and how exciting could it be - here are my favourite top apps to find places and best food while travelling. I hope this guide is going to help you to find your new favorite spots around your area or make your future travels even more exciting. I'm not just referring to any ordinary food-finding app for travelers—that would be a bit too generic. The best travel apps should connect you with authentic local experiences or even very niche ones where to go.

1: Michelin Guide - Must Have For Your Next Adventure

The Michelin Guide is revered among food enthusiasts worldwide for its meticulous ratings of top-tier restaurants, awarded by dedicated inspectors. Exploring Michelin-starred restaurants is always fun, I am more and more pleasantly surprised of the selections of some really hidden gems, make sure to check Bib Gourmand.

2: EatWith - Have Dinner Together With Locals

Whether you search an elegant dinner in a Haussmann flat, an Italian cooking class with a Roman family, or a fish market tour in Tokyo Eatwith has it all and provides unique and immersive culinary experiences worldwide.

3: CodeHospitality - London is Calling!

Exclusive to London travellers. Discounts at some of the best places in London. Membership to CODE includes unlimited access to 600 hand-picked industry offers across the best restaurants and bars in the UK.

4: WorldofMouth - Unbiased Restaurants Recommendations

Restaurant guide for almost 2000 cities, 10000 recommendations from chefs and other foodies. To keep the service trustworthy and transparent, experts cannot recommend their own places. You can also make your own list of your favorite places.

5: TheFork - More Than Just a Reservation

TheFork is the ultimate companion for food-focused travelers exploring Europe and Australia. The app is a leading online restaurant booking and discovery platform with over 60,000 of the best dining spots across. Make sure book places with highest ratings.

6: WithLocals - Food Tours and Other Hidden Gems

WithLocals is an essential travel app that helps you connect with locals and tour the city, they have some touristy ones as well as some hidden gems. You can check out tour guides as well as their ratings and customer reviews.

7: VoiceMap - Self-Paced Audio Tours not only for Foodies

VoiceMap provides audio tours in more than 300 destinations globally, crafted by local storytellers and a lot of them are real foodies, GPS also works perfectly to show you delicious locations and hidden gems.

8: HappyCows - Essential for Vegans and Vegetarians

Happy Cow is one of the most popular vegan travel apps. It allows users to filter between vegan-only, vegetarian, and restaurants with veggie options available. Can be particularly useful when in non-vegan friendly destinations.

Embrace the Spirit of Adventure

Eploring local restaurants and trying authentic dishes is an important (for some of us the most important) part of any travel adventure. Sure, there’s always a chance you’ll stumble upon an odd gem, but you’re more likely to have memorable meals if you do some research and planning in advance. Reading local reviews, cross-checking against Yelp and Google, and combing through relevant social media posts can help you find can’t-miss destinations and experiences. But of course - leave some space for an adventure around the corner.
